TubeGraph: A "five-star" rating system?

TubeGraph with stars?

We've stated before that we believe that rating with five stars doesn't seem enough. But... is it enough? In fact, we have to acknowledge that rating with five stars is the de facto standard in Internet when giving users the opportunity to rate. That, in practice, is a way of presenting a 1-to-5 likert scale in a direct fashion.

We raise this issue because some of the first suggestions we've received from you is that it might be simpler to allow users to rate with stars instead of continuously.

Continuous Slider + Discrete Keyboard?

Maybe a hybrid approach is not a bad option. Some of the other things we are considering is to enable the keyboard as a way of rating. Then, it'd be a good idea to use five numbers as the input from our users. The 1-to-5 ratings from the keyboard could then be combined with the use of the slider (or even up and down keys) to further refine the ratings.

Not the first time

It is funny because it is not the first time we personally play with slider kind of ratings. When we were developing the first version of meipi, we introduced the kind of slider-ratings too. Eventually we changed them too for a 5-stars rating system, for it was more understandable by the users. Will we succeed this time? :-)

Already there

In a way, the tubegraphs we show are already presented with some horizontal lines that can be directly mapped to the 1-to-5 stars. We will continue exploring in this line, and eventually improve our tool so it's more useable. Keep an eye on the blog to check when that happens!
