TubeGraph: Finding the best parts of each video!

One Month of TubeGraph

As 2008 ends, many sites and blogs analyze what has been going on for them during the last year. For us, it should be easy, as TubeGraph is only one month old. :-)

Time to review how our experiment has evolved (a little) to get some attention. Not massive, but we're still surprised from different reviews, like this Korean(?) (please someone tell us about it if you read this through that entry's trackback) that we are getting.

TubeGraph: Dramatic ChipmunkIt is also time to "honour" the most tubegraphed videos during the first month. The top three is leaded by the Dramatic Chipmunk (rated 54 times), which also appears in combination with Homer Simpson in position #2. Funnily enough, the chipmunk kind of short video is not the kind of video that gets so much enhanced by collective time-ratings, as those videos are usually watched completely, even though in this particular case, from its tubegraph (shown here) one can easily find where our prairie dog friend turns to the camera.

In number #3, we find a funny anti-piracy parody from IT Crowd, where its graph can tell where the best jokes are. Position #4 is for some slam dunk contests featuring Dominique Wilkins and Michael Jordan. The graph clearly shows our users' favorite moments.

From the point of view of our start page, we have noticed a feedback effect where the most rated videos were prominently displayed and hence rated again, consolidating their position. We are trying to revert that situation by changing a little bit our index page. (Even though, paradoxically, this post will contribute to the described effect:-)

TubeGraph of the Month: Michael Jordan and Chicago @ Utah 1998Amongst other changes, we are displaying now a "featured" TubeGraph "of the month", to see if this way we can convince (some) users to find the interesting parts of a '98 NBA Finals video. Yes, it seems we like basketball. 8-) By the way, suggest usnext month featured video and take advantage of showing it in a prominent place.

More ideas will continue to appear little by little in 2009. (A Firefox extension, very soon.) Stay tuned to the blog to check them out!

Happy 2009, and happy TubeGraphing!
